On March 23, 2021 the County of Imperial Board of Supervisors approved establishment of the 2021 Fellowship Program for college students. The goal of the fellowship program is to prepare college students for work in the various sectors of county local government by providing them opportunities for mentorship, service projects, scholarship funds, and employment. Fellows will be able to apply classroom learning to real world work experience to better prepare them to make an impact in the local community.

Requirements

  • Be a high school graduate of Imperial County
  • Between the ages of 18-24 at application
  • Be entering third year of undergraduate coursework at an accredited college or university
  • Must have and maintain a 3.5 GPA
  • Must complete a County service project
  • Must complete the Work Academy
  • Maintain ongoing communication with mentor
  • Commit to 18 months of full-time, limited term employment with the County of Imperial upon graduation

Application & Selection Process

The online application will launch on April 9, 2021 and close May 14, 2021. Application requirements include: application form, essay prompts, copy of high school diploma or official transcripts, official college transcripts with most recent semester/quarter completed, rèsumè, and two references. Transfer students must submit Proof of Intent to Enroll.

Top scoring applicants will be invited to a panel interview at the end of May and selected Fellows will be announced in June. Fellows are expected to attend orientation in July.

Fellows do not have to be attending college or university in the Imperial County to qualify. Fellows enrolled in college/university out of state are eligible as long as they meet all other requirements.
